Transforming Lives Through Education, Skill Development & Human Connection
Greetings, my name is Rick and I have spent over a year conducting “man-on-the-street” interviews with the homeless in Salt Lake City to better understand their needs, struggles, culture and current gaps that exist in Utah’s response. This website details what was learned from their collective experiences and hopes to increase public awareness, reduce stigma, and create public & policy dialogue to supplement change using an educational approach. It also includes a resource library to address many of the problems they struggle with and is designed as a free public service for anyone seeking improvement.
This site has three audiences in mind: (1) the public—to see and interact with these neighbors with greater compassion, understanding, and service-engagement (2) community leaders & policymakers to see more fully what is happening at the ground level and include education as part of their response and (3) people living on the streets to understand how to access community resources and subsequently learn the skills necessary for long-term success & personal development.
This site is a call-to-action to: 1) create awareness 2) encourage people to donate supplies & get involved and 3) locate venues throughout the valley to host free lifestyle classes.
