WHO WE ARE
Out of the Dust is a homelessness outreach & education project built around real people, with real stories, and real struggles. It is the result of 18 months of interviews, service projects, and learning where the gaps exist in Utah's homeless response. It is designed to help the public see their street-neighbors with more compassion & understanding, as well as, helping policy makers learn directly from the people they aim to serve, and lastly, educate those living on the streets with the necessary mental health & life-skills that leads to long-term success. Few know their stories, while most avoid them all together. This site connects the dots and gives the reader an up close & personal look at their situation and the causes that put many there as well as the many forces that continue to work against them. They are us—and for some of us, we were literally them—our family members, neighbors, colleagues. Change begins in the head & heart and nurtured through safe & reliable support networks. Our goal is to be part of that network and help awaken the power within them.
