Government Thinking Leads to Government ‘Solutions’

The following documents were Utah’s plan to address homelessness in 2023-2024. They are “resource-focused” (give a man a fish) and not “educationally-oriented” (teach a man to fish).

2025’s homeless focus is more of the same—spend, spend, spend without any individual accountability, guided education (my definition of education, not theirs—see below), or expectations for long-term change or improvement. Housing and employment are the end-goals and not necessarily changed thinking or behaviors (which is assumed if they achieve those 2 measurable benchmarks). Unfortunately, it’s another coin thrown into the wishing well and hoping for long-term change based solely on housing and employment statistics. Below are several slides that explain what is proposed by the state, what (in my opinion) is lacking in their plan, and what is needed (again, from my perspective as an educator). Information is taken from public postings and combined with my citizen-perspective and commentary using highlighted boxes, arrows, underlined phrases, and yellow commentary statements.
