Man-On-The-Street Interviews

The following audio clips are unscripted, spontaneous interviews on the streets of Salt Lake City. They represent a handful of the 100’s I have met. *Warning: The topics of drug use, manufacturing, and speaking to people in a drug camp while using occurs. Additionally, there is a “Language Warning” for several clips due to excessive cussing and/or sensitive content that serves as a forewarning to those with sensitive ears who are interested in learning but without the coarseness of the street. Those particular clips are listed in gray color. Interviews are posted chronologically in the beginning and then by person or theme later on. The types of questions that were initially asked to ascertain interest in a mobile classroom that was being developed, were replaced by more specific questions with the intent of gaining deeper insights into the underbelly of life on the streets. A few interviews are very disturbing because of the content and pain expressed (they appear with a gray link). It is by empathetic listening that you learn to become conversant in the painful ways of the world and how to engage with it (and them) in more compassionate ways. Final thought, many on the street have pseudo-names that hearken back to prison days and are used to disguise their true identity. I do not know the accuracy of any name given.

*This first clip summarizes various encounters on the same day and illustrates the ongoing problems these people face daily.
